We moved here nearly four years ago. That first year was brutal - we were a one-car family, I didn't know a lot of people, halfway through that year I got pregnant with our second and it was not a fun pregnancy, you get the idea. Right before our daughter was (finally) born, a new family moved in. That first Sunday I saw her at church, I thought, oh I hope we can be friends! It's fun when things work out sometimes :)
She has ended up being one of my favorite people here over the past three years, and her husband is my husband's best friend. She helped throw baby showers for my last two babies, has been there through some really good times and some not-so-good times. And they are moving at the end of the school year. I can't tell you how sad that makes me.
Her daughter was born a year before I started quilting with any regularity, so I never made her a quilt. So I thought that would be a perfect going away gift. It turns out she thought so too. And here it is -
I thought Fandango would be a great fit for her, and I love anything Kate Spain. I used the Abracadabra pattern from Bloom and Blossom. Match made in heaven.
The quilting was simple - echo quilting 1/4" around each box with some straight lines around the outside perimeter.I love a striped binding!
The pieced back makes me happy too - two lovely fabrics with an extra column I pieced to tie it all together. I love a good finished quilt! Now, go check out all the other lovely quilts at the Bloggers' Quilt Festival!

This is such a pretty quilt...front AND back. I am sure your friend loves it and will keep you in her heart always. It is hard being the one left behind when friends have to move apart. But with the internet, you can visit with her every day. I know. I am living proof of keeping up with close friends from SC to AZ.
It's a beautiful quilt! Love the pieced back!
That is so pretty. I've got that pattern saved a as a favorite and your quilt makes me want to go ahead and buy it so I can make something just as lovely as yours. What a wonderful present. Sorry your friend is moving away.
How did I miss this blog?! You are so inspiring - I need to get off my duff and finally start learning!

I love Kate Spain too. Your quilt is beautiful. Sorry your friend is moving but you have an avenue for making other new friends now!
Your quilt turned out wonderfully. Kate Spain's fabrics make a wonderful quilt. A very thoughtful leaving gift.
Love your quilt. Have some fandango that I'm thinking of making something for my daughter but may just end up giving it to her to play with. Your pattern would be a good use of what I have I had a friend like yours...met in church in frankfurt Germany over 30 years ago. I saw her from the back and somehow felt like I knew her. We have boys named Adam who are two weeks apart and although we live across the country from each other we're still friends and on fb with our boys. Thanks for sharing and have a great day

Sad story! I hate when friends move away. But a quilt is the perfect gift. Also, I'm pretty in love with your blog background. So cute!
Great quilt! I love what you did with the back!
That is a lovely quilt! I'm sad your friends are leaving. I hope that your two families stay in touch. Going to see friends is always a good excuse for a family road trip, if you ask me.
Best wishes on making it thru her departure. I know the feeling. Love your quilt. Keep quilting, it has kept me sane thru three moves.
Very pretty, and I love the back.

The entire quilt is so lovely. I am a HUGE Kate Spain fan. Love Love Love her fabrics!! I'm sad to read about your friends moving away. Life is hard that way sometimes, so it's great that we have quilts to remind us of all those good things/people we've had around us.
Love your quilt from front to back! Wonderful story to go with it.
